Thomas LE TEXIER - CREM is associate professor of economics at the University of Rennes 1 since 2010. He received his Ph.D degree from the University of Nice – Sophia Antipolis in 2008. His main research topics are innovation and digital economics dealing with both managerial and market-based aspects. His recent research focuses on the industrial organization of multi-sided platforms and related digital services - with special interest in competition strategies and regulation - studied through theoretical approaches. A related research track he is currently exploring is that of the diffusion of artificial intelligence technologies and algorithms in digital industries and their impact on market prices and policy regulation.

Seminar proposal. Theoretical modeling in economics
This short seminar presents theoretical modeling as a relevant research method to provide results when studying markets. It will introduce an overview of the research methods in economics and present the extent to which theoretical and empirical methods are not substitutes but rather complements. More precisely, it will evidence the very strong ties between the latter methodologies and the need for scholars to better consider their pros and cons when conducting research in economics.
